General Purpose
The role of the Muskingum County Arts Council, through its executive director and board, serves the citizens of Muskingum County whether active creatives or audiences:
WILL –
- empower artists through opportunities to develop their business skills.
- facilitate community events via partnerships, to generate community participation, draw visitors from outside Muskingum County, engage our youth, and mitigate isolation.
- inventory all the history, visual & performing arts, cultural, craft, creative industries in our area – not just a list, but understand their role and how to offer opportunities to grow or enhance these entities.
- inventory all obvious and potential locations for experiencing the above ( to create unique collaborative experiences).
- meet with civic leaders and appropriate staff to learn about wish lists and brainstorm how to make initiatives happen utilizing the Director’s expertise, network, & funding sources.
- foster a growing arts presence and appreciation in the County through exposure to a range of visual, applied, and performing arts experiences.
- offer opportunities to learn about and celebrate our Appalachian heritage.
- offer opportunities to learn about and celebrate our history as an economic driver of Ohio through the ceramics industry.
- connect the dots between arts entities, creative industries, government, civic groups, education, healthcare, and senior engagement.
- foster collaboration among arts & humanities entities to broaden their impact.
- facilitate opportunities for all ages to enhance knowledge, encourage creative experimentation, and personal growth.
- measure the Arts Council’s economic and social impact to communicate its value.
- pursue funding/grant writing for expenses of the Council, programming, and for eventual grant making to Muskingum County arts & humanities organizations (a common practice in arts councils throughout the state).
- explore opportunities to collaborate with other counties in our Appalachian region.
- perform general administration of the Arts Council.
